The gap between the islands, where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific. This line takes the strait at its narrowest — Cape Terawhiti across to Perano Head, about 22 km — then slips into Tory Channel for the run through to Picton. Tide races funnel through here and the wind accelerates between two mountain ranges.
